Toyota Center: Houston's Premier Arena

Toyota Center is a 18,500-seat arena in the heart of Houston's East Downtown neighborhood, and it hosts far more than just basketball. While the Houston Rockets are the main tenants, the arena's calendar is packed year-round with concerts, UFC fights, professional wrestling events, Disney on Ice, comedy shows, and touring spectacles. Located at 1510 Polk Street, Toyota Center sits just blocks from Minute Maid Park and 713 Music Hall, making EaDo Houston's undisputed entertainment district. If you are coming to Houston for a Toyota Center event, staying in the surrounding neighborhood is the smartest move you can make.

Houston Rockets: NBA Season Guide

The Season

The NBA regular season runs from mid-October through mid-April, with the playoffs extending into June. The Rockets play 41 home games at Toyota Center, plus preseason exhibitions. Weekend games and matchups against marquee opponents like the Lakers, Warriors, and Mavericks sell out quickly. The arena atmosphere during a packed Rockets game is electric — the crowd is loud, the in-game entertainment is polished, and the sightlines from nearly every seat are excellent.

Getting Tickets

Tickets are available through the Rockets' official site and authorized resellers. Upper-level seats start around $15 to $30 for weekday games against smaller-market teams, while courtside seats for marquee matchups can top $500. The sweet spot for value is the lower bowl corners — Sections 101 through 106 and 114 through 119 — where you get excellent views at moderate prices. Student rush tickets and last-minute deals on resale platforms can save you even more.

Concerts and Live Events

Toyota Center books 40 to 60 concerts and live events per year outside of the Rockets schedule. Recent headliners have included Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Drake, Billie Eilish, and Bruno Mars. The arena converts from basketball configuration to concert setup in a matter of hours, and the production capabilities rival any venue in the country. Sound quality varies by section — for concerts, floor seats and lower bowl center sections (108–112) generally offer the best audio experience.

UFC and Combat Sports

Houston is a major UFC market, and Toyota Center hosts one to two UFC pay-per-view events annually. The city's diverse population and passionate fight fanbase make it one of the loudest arenas on the UFC circuit. MMA events typically sell out quickly, so buy tickets as soon as they are announced. The octagon is positioned at center court, and every seat in the lower bowl has a clear view of the action.

Where to Eat Before a Toyota Center Event

Within Walking Distance

Rodeo Goat on Polk Street is the go-to pre-event spot — gourmet burgers, a massive Texas craft beer list, and a lively patio atmosphere. It is about a 10-minute walk from Toyota Center. POST Houston's food hall offers a dozen vendors under one roof, perfect for groups who want different cuisines. For Tex-Mex, Mama Ninfa's on Navigation is a short rideshare away and worth every minute of the detour. Nancy's Hustle on Polk is ideal if you want a proper sit-down dinner before a concert.

Quick Bites

If you are short on time, the taco trucks along Navigation Boulevard serve excellent street tacos for under $3 each. Vinny's Pizzeria has grab-and-go slices that you can eat on the walk to the arena. Inside Toyota Center, the concessions have improved in recent years with local vendors and craft beer options, but you will pay arena prices — budget accordingly.

Parking and Transportation

Driving

Event parking at Toyota Center and the surrounding lots typically costs $20 to $40. The lots fill up quickly for high-demand events, and post-event traffic can be brutal. If you are staying in EaDo, leave your car at the rental and walk — Toyota Center is within a 10 to 15 minute walk of most EaDo locations.

METRORail

The METRORail Green and Purple lines stop at the EaDo/Stadium station, which is directly adjacent to Minute Maid Park and a short walk from Toyota Center. The train runs extended hours on event nights and costs $1.25 per ride. It is the fastest and cheapest way to get to and from events if you are staying along the rail line.

Rideshare

Uber and Lyft are readily available in Houston, but surge pricing after major events can triple the normal fare. The designated rideshare pickup zone for Toyota Center is on Jackson Street between La Branch and Crawford. Allow 15 to 20 minutes for pickup after an event. Better yet, stay in EaDo and skip the surge entirely.

Where to Stay for Toyota Center Events

Downtown Houston hotels within walking distance of Toyota Center charge $200 to $400 per night, and they spike prices further on event nights. A vacation rental in EaDo gives you a full apartment or house — kitchen, living room, parking, WiFi — for less than the cost of a single hotel room. You are walking distance from the arena, surrounded by restaurants and breweries, and you are not competing with 18,000 other people for an elevator at the end of the night.

Pro Tips for Toyota Center Events

  • Arrive early — Doors open 90 minutes before Rockets games and 60 minutes before most concerts. The earlier you arrive, the better parking and food options you get.
  • Clear bag policy — Toyota Center enforces a clear bag policy. Bags must be clear plastic or vinyl, no larger than 12x6x12 inches. Small clutch purses (4.5x6.5 inches) are also permitted.
  • Check the calendar — When Rockets games, concerts, and Astros games align on the same night, the entire EaDo neighborhood is buzzing. Plan your dinner reservations accordingly.
  • Post-event plan — Have a plan for after the event. The breweries close between 10 PM and midnight, but late-night dining options in EaDo are available.
